Friendly and helpful management at this superb location (1 km from Walton's River Dove at Beresford Dale). Site has a slight gradient but level for the area. Maurice Green 19 August 2009 Super farm campsite close to Beresford Dale and within easy walk of Hartington. Open site with views to countryside. No electric hook-up, but hot showers - 20 pence meter and basic washing up sink with hot water. Clean, as are the toilets. Busy in mid August 2009 when we visited, but lots of space. No unwelcome noise. Would definitely visit again.
1 August 2010 Visited Barracks farm from 1985- 2002 with my growing family every year. Hope to return this year. Great campsite value for money and run beautifully by the family. Want to know if there are any more campsites like this in England as every other seems too commercialised. A Great place to be, a lovely location and nice walk to Hartington or Dovedale both via the river dove. Can not wait to get back there.
3 August 2010 I've been visiting this campsite since I was a little girl, and my Mum did the same with her Dad before me! I've looked for a nicer campsite in the surrounding area, but have always given up and returned to Barracks Farm!! It's situated just off a lane which runs all the way down to the river dove at the Beresfordale section of it. It's a lovely 45 min walk to Hartington - lovely little village and ideally located for most peak district walks and activities!
The facilities are basic, about 8 toilets, and 4 showers. There's a waste disposal point and a water tap. But you've got the freedom of two huge fields to camp in and the owners are really laid back.
I'd reccommend the site if you want a relaxed weekend away. Great for kids at peak times, when I was little we always made a group of friends who we played with for days on end!! Really safe an quite location - until the cows want milking! and i'll be going back this year!!
May 2012 Great Location, surrounded by fantastic walks . We've been going here twice a year for the past 3 years with DofE groups.Could easily be perfect...But the toilet and shower facilities are now not fit for purpose and in need of immediate updating
- if teenage boys refuse to use them then you know they're really bad! also the Camping field grass is left too long for ease of use and comfort.
Therefore this camp site at present is only of use for Caravanners with their own facilities.
